As the season draws to an end its time to get ready to store the gear for the summer. The way you store your gear will have a huge impact on its condition come next season. Here’s some tips to maintain that condition.

Boots: Don’t just rip off the boots and through them somewhere in the garage after your last run. First off take the time to clean them of any mud or grim that could have accumulated on them over the season. Next take out the insoles and let them and the rest of your boots to really air dry, do not put the insoles in the washer or dryer though. Leave them out for at least a day. Once they are dried out you can now put them back together, make sure you buckle or lace up your boots as tight as you would if they were on your feet. If you either leave them unbuckled/unlaced or to tight the shell material can take on a new shape and won’t fit as well next season. Lastly make sure you don’t store your boots in a damp moist area, so forget about throwing them in the attic or garage.

Skis/Snowboards: Just like your boots make sure to properly clean your skis or boards after your final day. Next take the time to apply a fresh coat of wax. You can either do this yourself or you can take them into a professional for a tune up. When storing your skies, again make sure its not a damp environment. An interior closest or even on a wall would be a great place to store them.

Clothes: We’ll say it again, but make sure to clean your clothes, just like the rest of your gear after your last run. Don’t just hang up the jacket with all that salt, dirt, a grim on it. Don’t just through your pants and jacket in the laundry with the rest of your clothes though. Regular detergent can harm the waterproof layer on your clothes. Look for special detergent that won’t harm them.
It’s sad to be writing this post as it means we’re at the end of our season. But we want to make sure that come next year you’ll be ready to go right away to get back out here.
